Content Portal
A Trade Show CMS Application
Overview
About the Project
Content portal is a trade-show application that allows exhibitors to upload content to a QR code for attendees to save, share, and revisit after the event.
The responsive web application was launched for two major events: Seatrade Cruise Global 2019 and Gartner Symposium 2019.
The Team
Clients: Seatrade Cruise Global, Gartner Symposium IT, and Freeman Company
Helios Interactive: UX / UI Design, Front End Development, Technology Integration
My Role
I led UX design through initial research, brainstorm sessions, low-fidelity wireframing, continuous usability testing, iteration and annotations for hand-off.
The Solution
By designing both a content management system for exhibitors to seamlessly add their content, attendees are able to easily save the content onsite and revisit it after the event.
Simple solutions for complex experiences.
The Users
Content Portal went live for a variety conferences, requiring our app to function for both the tech savvy IT professional and less tech savvy cruisers.

Iterations
Exhibitor CMS
This is the exhibitor portal. In this instance, a show manager logged into their CMS and uploaded content for all QR codes. I kept the design minimal as there aren’t many actions from this page. The 1st iterations were my reference upon joining the team.
Content Library: Access to All Content
1st iteration
The # of QR codes was limited so we removed the sorting and also removed the sales contact card from this page since each QR code had an associated contact card.
2nd iteration
Usability testing with mid fidelity wireframes showed that the minimal design is easy to understand.
Final iteration - Utilizing the Freeman brand, we implemented the UI elements.
Content Library: Adding and Updating Content
1st iteration - once within a QR code, the user can add associated content. There was a lot of confusion during usability testing around what actions were and what they meant.
2nd iteration - After usability testing, I conducted design research around content related platforms. I added the drag and drop to upload content, edit actions, and updated the copy.
Final iteration - By giving the user the auto-save functionality and by listing the content in rows, the user could upload and edit content seamlessly.
Attendee Portal
During the event, attendees visit the exhibitor booth, scan their QR code and save the content to their portal.
Content Library: Access to All Content
1st iteration
Users expressed confusion around how to save content and frustrations with the number of interactions to complete a task
2nd iteration
I removed the checkbox so users save all content instead of making the selection. This simplifies the user flow and aligns with business goals of reaching more audiences.
Final iteration
I added a tutorial popup to guide first time users in saving content.
UX Annotations
I collaborated closely with the development team and provided detailed annotations about the functionality, flow, and interaction design for the product.

Retrospective
Successful brainstorm sessions with our internal and client teams led to more alignment of business and user needs.
Clients were happy and requested redeployments for future events.
