Visa VR
A Virtual Reality (VR) experience that takes the user on a digital journey as a Visa transaction.
Overview
About the Project
Launched: October 2019
Using 360 VR technology, Helios created 360 models and animation that moves a viewer through the digital world of a financial transaction. The journey illustrates how Visa uses artificial intelligence to prevent fraud.
The Team
Client: Visa
Helios Interactive: UX / UI Design, Front End Development, Technology Integration
My Role
As the team’s UX Designer I conducted initial research, led brainstorms, designed wireframes, and presented our design direction to stakeholders.
It was my responsibility to craft and showcase multiple user journey’s for our client and team to move forward with.
The Challenge
As my first virtual reality project, understanding the developer capabilities was a huge challenge. Patience was key as it took time to craft a story line that fit with Visa’s expectations and VR capabilities. but Luckily our team closely collaborated internally and held brainstorm sessions with our client.
360 VR is one of the many solutions offered by Helios Interactive. It was an additional challenge viewing this project through the lense of templatizing our work for future VR experiences.
The Solution
By creating a virtual experience where a guest journeys through the digital world of a financial transaction, we were able to innovatively convey the steps of a Visa transaction.
Iterations
I showcased multiple options in which the client was able to chose from, allowing them to mix and match their VR needs.
The guest has to interact with the application to move forward. Hotspots required in a looping video.
or
Single Play Video: the application plays video once through and automatically transitions guest to next scene. There are no hotspots in a single play video.
Linear vs navigational flow
It was my responsibility to deliver a VR UX that was engaging, intuitive, and templatized for our developers to reuse in the future.
Navigation flow
Guest has control over how they move through experience.
Linear flow
The journey is linear, the same for all guests
Engaging the flow
By allowing the guest to move through the experience at their own discretion (using the navigational flow), they are more engaged and excited to learn about the Visa transaction process.
Translating 360 into 2D
Retrospective
My UX approach to future VR projects shifted. Timing is everything within 360 video. By adding timelines to my wireframes, the developer easily knows when the story changes and when to bring in UI elements. I created a template that shows the 360 perspectives on a 2D wireframe and identified what is within the user’s field-of-view.
